| The Black Lion Hotel and dates back to 1310.
The hotel gets it's name from Queen Phillipa of Hainault's coat of Arms. She was the
wife of King Edward III. The northern end of the building was built to accommodate King Edward III on his numerous pilgrimages to Walsingham. It's role changed during the 17th century when it became a coaching Inn, then in the 18th century it hosted the petty sessions until 1861 when they were moved to the Shire Hall. It is situated next to the Roman Catholic Church and parking is available in Friday Market Place. |
